LA SALLE BASSE
This
eighteenth century farmhouse makes a very special holiday
home. Situated 3km from Salvagnac
in the famous Gaillac
wine region, it has terracotta flooring, original oak beams,
a terrace and barbecue. The garden has a good sized pool
enclosed by a fence and flowering shrubs and there are lovely
views over the surrounding countryside with vineyards, woods
and farms intermingling to form a mosaic of warm colours.
In
spring nightingales sing continuously in the bushes and
in summer woodpeckers, hoopoes and golden orioles visit
the fruit trees and cattle egrets feed in the meadows nearby.
Toulouse, Montauban, Gaillac
and Albi
with their beautiful pink brick buildings, art museums and
cathedrals are within easy reach. Lisle-sur-Tarn, Puycelsi,
Castelnau de Montmiral, St. Antonin and Cordes are all well
worth visiting and there are many other interesting towns
and villages to discover. A short distance north of the
house lies the forest of the Sivens and beyond that the
Gresigne forest and the Aveyron river which runs through
spectacular gorges and beside picturesque castles. The space
museum in Toulouse is highly recommended and for children
a day out to the adventure Parc Walibi at Agen is a must.
Salvagnac
has a village store, a boulangerie, pharmacy, hairdresser,
café, restaurant, hotel and Wednesday market. There
are local markets most days of the week and Montauban (30km)
and Gaillac (14km) have all the supermarkets and shops you
will need.
